Family Health Care Following up on a campaign promise by Premier Dalton McGuinty, George Smitherman, Ontario’s Minister of Health, cut the ribbon on a new Family Health Team clinic.
"We're changing the way health care is delivered in Hamilton by making it more responsive to the needs of the community," said Smitherman. "More patients in this city will now have access to a family doctor and family health team of their own to help keep them healthy and treat them when they get sick." The Clinic is located at the offices of Dr. Richard Tytus, 700 Main Street East in Hamilton known as Main Medical and will feature 4 doctors serving 9,000 patients. The family health team includes 4 doctors, nurses, a dietician, and a pharmacist. Dr. Tytus’ family health team is now part of the larger Hamilton Family Health Team, which includes 113 doctors, 76 nurses, 16 dieticians, 56 mental health counselors and services 250,000 patients. Family Health teams is a response to the general consensus that health care reform is needed. Dr. Tytus is a Family Doctor and Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at McMaster University.
